All You Need to Know About MNP

There are two kinds of porting: internal and external.

Globe began offering internal porting on April 21, 2021. External porting, as mandated by the NTC, became available starting September 30, 2021.

Internal porting refers to switching between services within the same network. For example:✓ Globe Prepaid to Globe Postpaid✓ Globe Postpaid to Globe Prepaid

External porting refers to moving your mobile number from one network to another—whether you're switching from your current provider to a new one or the other way around. This can include changes like:

✓ Smart Prepaid to Globe Prepaid✓ Smart Postpaid to Globe Postpaid✓ DITO Prepaid to Globe Prepaid

The network you're leaving is called the Donor Provider (DP), while the network you're transferring to is known as the Recipient Provider (RP).

Check Your Eligibility

Only the actual owners of personal mobile numbers and authorized representatives of businesses can apply for internal porting, as long as they meet these criteria:

  • An Active SIM or mobile number
  • Fully paid postpaid bill
  • No porting transaction in the last 60 days
  • No record of fraudulent activity

Only personal mobile number owners and authorized business representatives can apply for external porting, as long as they meet these criteria:

  • An Active SIM or mobile number
  • No financial/outstanding obligation from your existing network
  • No porting transaction in the last 60 days
  • No record of fraudulent activity
  • Your mobile number shouldn’t be part of a bundled service or product.
  • There must be no pending request for the transfer of ownership of your mobile subscription.
  • Your number must not be the primary/principal contact number of your multiple lines.
  • Your mobile number must not be linked to a device that’s still locked with your existing network.
  • Your number must not be under any National Telecommunications Commission, court, or law prohibition.

FAQ

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is a global practice that allows mobile users to retain their existing phone number when switching between network providers or changing from postpaid to prepaid plans—and vice versa—without incurring any fees.

When MNP is implemented, it helps promote consumer welfare by giving people the freedom to choose their mobile service provider or switch between subscription plans—based on price, quality, or other factors—without having to change their mobile number.

As stated in the law, porting will be free of charge.
